Kursus med Simone Simons – 7. – 8. november 2020
Bag or basket, weaving with esparto grass – 2 ledige pladser
In this workshop Simone will teach two plaiting techniques in esparto grass.
We will learn two techniques how to stitch the long bands together. A special attention will be given to designing the shape and volume of the bag or basket with room for experimentation. We will use Spanish esparto grass and experiment with local plant fibres. More experienced students can learn “punto de cofín” a spiral techniques build up without stitching.

Baskets with Nansa technique – KURSET ER DESVÆRRE AFLYST PGA REJSERESTRIKTIONER FRA CATALONIEN
The Mediterranean is home to a beautiful and distinctive technique of weaving used by fishermen to make a variety of fishing baskets and traps. In Catalonia ‘Nansa’ fish traps were made in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on the kind of fish they wanted to catch, the traps were usually made in the winter with a very tough kind of rush (Juncus acutus) as well as split cane (Arundo donax) and olive stems.
I
n this workshop you will learn to make a round basket with rope handles and a star base inspired by some traditional pieces made with rush. We will work with willow and linen string in colours of your own choice. You can also choose to make a bowl shaped piece instead.
