SALIX - Willow Art / Learning and Sharing Arts and Craft of Weaving and Construction as Common European Knowledge

Willow work is known all over Europe but expresses itself with national differences and cultural peculiarities.
As a job willow work is overtaken by Asia but as cultural heritage it is worth while to expand the knowledge of
regional differences and similarities and use this knowledge positively.

This project is designed to lay the groundwork for developing cross-cultural communicative competence.
We would like to assemble this broad knowledge and with this basis, creating new initiatives focussing on willow in terms of both process and product.
Differing regional traditions and artistic styles will be brought together in a common knowledge base, shall be further compared and developed in a creative exchange.

Teachers and learners will be brought together and linked in a European network.
Workflow for partners will take place in an interaction between trans-national educational workshops and then teaching and dissemination locally.
Works of willow art and craft shall be presented in the public space as well as on the project website.

The target groups are adult learners including learners with special needs, senior learners and learners at risk of social exclusion.
Handicraft do not call for special educational nor linguistic skills and is therefore a unique way to communicate.

Aims: To motivate adult learners to lifelong learning; To increase knowledge about art and handcraft using willow and other materials;
To exchange information with partners involved, in order to be aware of the own and European culture.
Outcomes: Learning more about language, culture, heritages, arts and handcrafts.
Products: Thematic Workshops; Exhibitions; Website.
